Singapore in the '60s

If Singapore made it, why couldn't we?

Old Singapura

Here's an aerial view of a Southeast Asian city before it transformed itself into the regions most efficient and rationally planned urban center. It made some mistakes along the way (like almost eradicating all its heritage structures before realizing that tourists were shying away from the place and, more importantly, it was losing its cultural identity) ...but it stuck to its physical development plans (reviewed every five years or so) with singular resolve ... and invested in robust infrastructure, extensive public housing, mass transport system and one of the world's most extensive urban green networks . What is this place and when was this image taken?
